The Laborers’ District Council of Western Pennsylvania and its affiliated local unions represent more than 8,500 active workers spread out over 33 counties in Pennsylvania. Laborers build and repair roads, highways, bridges, and tunnels, construct residential and commercial buildings, clean up hazardous waste sites, and perform many other types of work. Tasks performed may include: building scaffolds, preparing and cleaning up a job site, laying pipe, placing concrete, flagging and controlling traffic on highways, and removing asbestos and lead from buildings, to name just a few.
