ALL SHAPES AND SIZES
PROJECTS OF THE UNION BUILDING TRADES
From single story office buildings to towering skyscrapers, from professional football fields to children’s playgrounds, from small budget projects to multimillion dollar facilities, union building trade workers and their affiliated contractors routinely take on projects that come in all shapes and sizes.
Heinz Field and PNC Park, the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, U.S. Steel Tower, the Allegheny County Jail, the O’Reilly Theater, Hillman Cancer Center, Beth Shalom Synagogue, Alcoa’s Corporate Headquarters—these are just a few of the many area landmarks and projects constructed with union labor. But there are literally thousands of other buildings and facilities located throughout the City of Pittsburgh and western Pennsylvania that were built by men and women of the union building trades.
Many of these are well known and take hundreds of workers to construct. Others are seen and known only to their owners and occupants, but are of no less value to the overall quality of local union construction. With over 20,000 highly skilled union building trade workers in the Pittsburgh area alone, it is no wonder that so many large and small contractors choose to employ union building trade workers, regardless of the type of facility they are building.
